Pretty Pinwheels

Rainy Day Wedding Activities Part One

It’s been a rainy old weekend, which means if you spent your time in front of the TV, enjoying cups of tea and wet-weather treats and forgoing any sort of outdoors-related exercise then we don’t blame you, but we’re only letting you off this once!

Killer Brides spent the weekend making some super cute wedding decorations that are just about as easy as you can get. Part one is pretty pinwheels and we’re sharing with you how to make them.

You will need the following:

Cut the scrapbooking paper into four six inch by six inch squares. Draw two lines from corner to corner, so that the form an ‘X’. Mark each line an inch from the centre point.

Use a thumb tack to make a hole in the centre point and at the top right corner of each triangle. (Wiggle it a bit, so the pinwheel spins freely!)

Cut down the lines from each corner to one inch from the centre point.

Pin each of the corners together and then pin through the centre. Set aside. It helps if you have something to pin it into, like a cutting board or a piece of wood or corkboard.

Cut the dowel into 12 inch lengths. Put a hole in the dowel one inch from the top, using a thumb tack. It’s easier to do this if you have a little hammer (especially if you are making lots) as it can be a wee bit hard on your fingers.

Put a tiny dab of super glue on the hole in the dowel and push the pinwheel into it. Hold it for a moment while the glue sets, so you don’t accidentally glue to paper to the stick and you’re done!

All materials for these pinwheels came from Spotlight in Cairns. If you want to make lots of pinwheels for your wedding, you can buy the scrapbooking paper in a pack which is more cost-effective.

We think these would work wonderfully at an outdoors or vintage-themed wedding!
