Who doesn't love getting silly in a pair of sunnies that make you look like a cross between Lady Gaga and the Blues Brothers and squishing into a booth with 12 other people? Weddings are all about sharing the love!
Traditional photobooths are a massive wedding trend because:
- They are fun and they provide entertainment for your wedding guests.
- They are easy. Just jump inside and pose.
- They provide great mementos for guests as well as the bride and groom.
- They make everyone look cool. Even, no especially, your crazy aunt.
So, now that I've established that traditional photobooths are awesome, here are some photobooth ideas that take novelty plastic sunglasses to a new level!
Instaprint by Breakfast
I haven’t had a crush on a piece of technology this bad since I got an iPad!
Instaprint is a portable little box that prints colour photos taken by Instagram; that magic little iphone app that lets you produce and share wistful little photos, bringing back the nostalgia of the Polaroid and reminding you of the little-bit-yellow photos that your Mum took on your second birthday.
How it works is simple. Take a photo on your phone, tag it with the specific location or hashtag that is set for the box and a special little moment in time pops out into your hand. Instaprint combines forward-thinking technology with tangible nuggets of nostalgia, resulting in an addictive level of modern coolness. In my opinion, Instaprint is best described as being like a old-but-much-loved crocheted quilt your nana made for you in 1987 that’s been reworked and given a new life as a cool slouchy beanie - still as warm and fuzzy as ever but way more upbeat.
I love the potential of just one little box, your guests and their phones. Instaprint isn’t available to hire yet in Australia (did I mention this article is about the future?) but I’ll be keenly keeping waiting to find out when it is. DIY Photobooth Software
DIY photobooth software gives you the freedom to get creative and make your own photo booth to match your wedding theme. You can choose from a variety of software and possibly the most popular is Sparkbooth. Install the software and set up a computer screen and webcam on a table with the hard drive (or use a lap top) hidden underneath. Set up a printer and the software automatically prints a photo for your guests to keep, formatted like a traditional photobooth strip. Keep an eye out in the months before your wedding for a backdrop and interesting props. (Do we even need to mention that this will save you a heap of money?)
Variation on DIY Photobooth
If you’re not planning on using the photos as take home presents for your guests, you can just provide use standard digital camera and some props. This way, you can catch some of the party action that you missed while fulfilling more serious bride & groom duties. Put the photos up on Facebook or a photo sharing site like Flickr and provide a link on your thank you cards for your guests.
* Note: Unless you have super responsible and polite friends & family, you will probably find some slightly inappropriate photos so I hope you’re not easily offended. And please make sure you use a camera that is party proof because I don't want to see you cry when it ends up floating in the champagne bucket at the end of the night...
